On January 9, the Third General Assembly of Members of the Western Returned Scholars Association of Nanjing University (Overseas-educated Scholars Association of Nanjing University) was held on Xianlin Campus. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Gu Wanfeng, Executive Deputy Director of the United Front Work Department of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee attended and addressed at the Assembly.
Tan congratulated members of the new Governing Council of the Western Returned Scholars Association of Nanjing University (NJUWRSA), extended his gratitude to the United Front Work Department of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and the Western Returned Scholars Association of Jiangsu Province, and expressed his respect to the departments at all levels and people from all sectors of society who have supported the development of overseas-educated scholars and Nanjing University. He pointed out that NJU has a glorious tradition of studying abroad and serving the country. In 2022, President Xi Jinping replied letters from NJU's young overseas-educated scholars and expressed high expectations for them. It was exhilarating and honourable for all members of NJU. He stressed that the returned talents are the key force for the development of the university, and the new Governing Council of NJUWRSA should lead the returned talents to make persistent efforts and create new achievements, so as to develop the university into a place for returned talents to aspire to and build on their achievements.

Gu Wanfeng said that this general meeting shows the good spirit of NJU's overseas-educated scholars. He pointed out that NJUWRSA has done a lot of fruitful work in promoting scientific and technological research, facilitating international exchanges and cooperation, and serving the overseas-educated scholars, thus making remarkable contributions to local development. He expected that NJUWRSA would continue to unite and cohesion overseas-educated scholars in the university, and contribute wisdom and strength to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The General Assembly elected the leadership and members of the third Governing Council of NJUWRSA. Lu Yanqing, Vice President of NJU was elected as President of the Council. Lu expressed his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of members of the new council. He briefly reviewed the history of NJUWRSA and emphasized that NJU's overseas-educated scholars will work together to make greater contributions to the development of the country.
