On January 12, the Meeting on Promoting Undergraduate Education and Teaching Reform was held on Xianlin Campus. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of CAS attended and addressed at the meeting.

Tan Tieniu said that this meeting was held during the critical period of the progress towards the national strategic goal of building a strong nation in education, which is of great significance for deeply analyzing the new situation and challenges faced by undergraduate education and teaching, comprehensively summing up the work of the previous stage, and planning and deploying reform tasks and initiatives of the next stage. With regard to the reform of undergraduate education and teaching at Nanjing University, he put forward three requirements: firstly, to strengthen the sense of mission, innovation and benchmarking, and accurately grasp the new situation of the reform of undergraduate education and teaching; secondly, to focus on matching the needs of the country, the characteristics of the times and the personalized and comprehensive development of the students, and strive to lead the new direction of the reform of undergraduate education and teaching; and thirdly, to keep the direction of the reform firmly in mind and plan the reform programme, in order to turn a new leaf for undergraduate education and teaching.

Tan Zhemin pointed out that for a long time, NJU has made outstanding achievements in carrying out profound reforms in undergraduate education and teaching in terms of the concept, mode, path of talent training, as well as course type and course selection; in the future, we need to think deeply about how to continue to contribute to the development of China's higher education with an innovative NJU model. He emphasized that reform is always on the way, and we should continue to anchor the goal of "the first NJU", adhere to the original intention of providing the best undergraduate education in China, and make greater contributions to the construction of a strong nation in education.

Lu Xiancai, Vice President of NJU made a report on the work of undergraduate education and teaching reform. He pointed out that the university will mobilize the departments, colleges, teachers, students and alumni to discuss five major themes of "exploring a new path to cultivate extraordinary top-notch innovative talents", "deep integration of artificial intelligence and undergraduate education and teaching", "integration of science and education to serve the national and regional development", "promoting faculty development" and "improving the quality assurance system", to jointly clarify the direction of in-depth reform.

Li Hao, Director of the Department of Student Work of NJU CPC Council, Miu Feng, Director of the Human Resource Office and Zhang Xuxiang, Director of the Laboratory and Equipment Management Office discussed on the reform of undergraduate education and teaching in the light of the actual work of NJU's departments and divisions.

On behalf of different Schools and Colleges, He Ning from the School of Foreign Studies, Liu Bin from the School of Electronic Science and Engineering introduced the situation and plan of undergraduate education and teaching reform in their respective schools.

During the session, awardees of the "My Favourite Teacher" Award, Xu Yanping, Wu Ting and Dai Wangzhou shared their experience on behalf of the NJU Faculty. University leaders and representatives of related departments attended the meeting.
