From January 23 to 24, Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the CAS visited and extend Spring Festival greetings to retired leaders, academicians and University Distinguished Professors in Humanities and Social Sciences.
Tan Tieniu visited Zhou Xian, NJU University Distinguished Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences, Ma Yuqiang, Vice-chairman of Jinagsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Acaemician of the CAS, Chen Yi, the former Acting President of NJU and Academician of the CAS, Qu Qinyue, the former President of NJU and Academician of the CAS, Lyu Jian, the former President of NJU and Acaemician of the CAS, and expressed his warmest regards to them.
Tan expressed his gratitude for their important contributions to the development of Nanjing University. He said that university is carrying out the "Forging Ahead Initiative", and is showing a positive momentum development. The university will continue to serve strategic needs of the country and socio-economic development of the region, and accelerate the construction of the "first NJU"; promote the coordinated development of arts, science, technology and medicine, and make new breakthroughs in the construction of new engineering disciplines; strengthen the synergy between science and technology education and humanities education, and fully demonstrate the important roles of philosophy and social science; continue to strengthen the publicity work; continue to promote the opening up of the school, and enhance the level of internationalization; and enhance the cohesion for NJU's development. He wished that the retired leaders and experts could continue to support NJU by offering their insights and suggestions.
The retired leaders, academicians and University Distinguished Professors were pleased and excited by the development results achieved by Nanjing University in the past year, and put forward a series of suggestions around the future development of the university.
Tan Zhemin visited Fu Congbin, Academician of the CAS and Foreign Academician of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, and extended his festival greetings to him. Fu expressed his gratitude and offered his advice for NJU's future development. During this visit, Tan presented Fu the certificate of the Fellowship of Chinese Meteorological Society. Chen Yunsong, Vice-chair of NJU CPC Council andd representatives of related departments participated in the visit.
