On March 25, Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, held a meeting on Suzhou campus to discuss the development of disciplines and the opening of the West part of Suzhou campus. He also visited the NJU Suzhou Graduate School and the NJU (Suzhou) Institute of Advanced Technology.
The meeting on the development of disciplines and the opening of the West part of Suzhou campus was held in Tianshu Building on the morning of March 25.

Tan Zhemin listened to reports, acknowledged the achievements and deployed key tasks for next stage. Tan emphasized the need for the Suzhou Campus to further clarify its development positioning and goals, remain committed to strengthening the new engineering disciplines, enhance collaboration between the university and local authorities, refine work measures, optimize the discipline layout, and accelerate the high-quality development of disciplines and teams. The focus should be on cultivating new growth points in disciplines aligned with national development strategies, regional economic and social development needs, and the forefront of technological development. During the initial construction phase of the campus, there should be an emphasis on innovation in systems and mechanisms, especially in education, talent evaluation, and resource allocation, to create a development model for the Suzhou campus that differs from the traditional model of the Nanjing Campus and meets the demands of "new engineering" development. There should also be a focus on attracting and nurturing leading talents and young talents, ensuring solid support for their growth.

Lu Yanqing, Vice President of NJU pointed out the need to further enhance planning and coordination, leveraging the characteristics and development needs of new engineering disciplines to vigorously promote the construction of research platforms and the deep integration of industry, academia, and research.
The meeting was chaired by Suo Wenbin, Vice President of NJU. He emphasized that all units in Suzhou should collaborate in an orderly manner, and create a better campus environment for faculty and students.
Leaders and representatives from related departments attended the meeting. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on discipline construction, student training, talent recruitment, and infrastructure development.
In the afternoon of March 25, Tan Zhemin visited the NJU Suzhou Graduate School and the NJU (Suzhou) Institute of Advanced Technology.

Tan listened to reports on the construction and development of the Suzhou Graduate School and the Institute of Advanced Technology. He emphasized that relevant departments should further align with the development positioning of the university and the Suzhou Campus, strengthen overall planning, clarify the future development goals and directions for the Suzhou Graduate School and the Institute of Advanced Technology, and fully utilize their geographical advantages and existing resources to elevate their work to a new level. Both institutions should continue to serve the national development agenda, focus on the actual needs of local economic and social development, strengthen collaboration between the university and local authorities, as well as with enterprises, optimize resource allocation, deepen educational model reform and innovation, and continuously achieve new results in the coordinated development of industry, academia, and research.
